Streamyx, previously also known as TMNet is an ISP in Malaysia.
It is the principal wired broadband provider in Malaysia and is a subsidiary of Malaysia's primary telecomunication service provider and public listed company, TM Bhd.
Obviously TM Net offers its internet Digital Subscriber Line broadband internet under the brandname Streamyx.
TM Net was established in 1995 by Telekom Malaysia Bhd (which subsequently morphed into TM Berhad) as part of Malaysia National Broadband Plan. It was at first deployed as a trial connecting TMnet to COINS.The first commercial test of xDSL by TM was done via a service known as HiS that was deployed together with Ericsson in 1999.
The original Streamyx broadband internet service was introduced in April 2001 at speeds of 384kbps.
In June 2007, Streamyx commences the high speed 4MBpsbroadband internet service which is currently, is the fastest available speed.
On 10 December 2009, TMnet introduced a new 15mbps fiber optic service under High Speed Broadband (HSBB) and is estimated to be launched by March 2010. At the moment the Malaysian internet facilities have been determined as not reaching the recent requirements as needed by basic web applications such as that of YouTube, Skype. Thus concludes that Malaysia may not in the long run harvest the rewards of broadband internet service.
Consequently, the deployment of High Speed Broadband Project is hope to to address this challenge.
